THE WHAT: The brainchild of Seattle-based writer-psychotherapist Eli Hastings and educator-writer Shaun Anthony McMichael, along with St. Louis-based professor-writer Daren Dean, Shadow Work Writers is a new, grassroots organization seeking to provide a platform for emerging writers of all backgrounds.
THE HOW: Shadow Work Writers hosts an annual literary arts reading featuring emerging writers.
GUIDEPOST: Shadow Work Writers embraces writing that faces the unseen darkness, the discordant, the fever-dreamt, and the damned-up of humanity’s drives and impulses, not as an idle pursuit but as a path of consciousness. As Carl Jung says, “Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.”
